I love her little body. Cannot get enough. Her feet. Her hands. Her legs. Her tummy. Her baby gummy grin. Everything.
Solid foods
I already mentioned Emma has started eating solids, but I didn’t share any cute pictures of her looking tiny in her highchair. The rules have changed a lot since Sophie was starting solids. (Weird, right? It’s been less than two years.) So far, Emma has had limited success with actually eating the food. Most still comes out. She has tried sweet potatoes, pears, squash, strawberry banana yogurt, some Gerber puffs, mum mums (sugary rice biscuits- not super healthy but something for her to hold and gnaw on), and a sausage link.
And a picture of her big sister who doesn’t seem to enjoy sharing her high chair. Oh, Sophia. She took all of Emma’s sippy cups and used that chair to climb into the high chair.
Just to clear up any confusion from my last Emma post, I think Sophie is perfect. She was perfectly tiny and is perfectly busy now. I also think Emma is perfect. She is just perfectly the right size of squish to make her mama so so happy. She is constantly observing and I cannot wait to see who she becomes.
Six Months!!
So Emma is six months. I have no clue how that happened. It seems like Sophie was so little for so long.
Emma is such a good girl. Because she didn’t have reflux, we have been blessed with a pretty good sleeper that has been able to gain weight at a healthy pace. (She also has the most tolerable cry ever and rarely cries, which is a huge bonus.) Just recently, she has been waking up more throughout the night. I don’t know if she is hungry (doesn’t make sense because she has not woken to eat since about three weeks old), is working on meeting milestones, or just wants to visit and sneak in some extra cuddles.
Speaking of hungry, she has started eating some “solids”. The rules have changed even since Sophie, so Emma has already had some interesting things, like sausage and yogurt with strawberries. Emma has rolled from her belly to her back a few times. She is stingy on those rolls. She has not rolled from her back to the stomach ever, though she rolls from side to side all the time. She even tries to tuck her legs underneath her to get into the crawl position. She just sat independently this weekend for the first time ever. We have been working on it and she seems I have finally gotten the hang of it. Yea, Emma! (Way safer than the trust fall she had mastered.)
We went to her check-up on a spring-like day. (We haven’t been getting many of those this spring so it was memorable.)
Emma’s length was measured. (How crazy that a year ago, she was being measured crown to rump because she was all tiny and curled up inside of me. So crazy that she is here. Still can’t believe it.) The nurse does the measuring, and even the doctor comments that Nurse Karen shortchanges everyone on their length. Emma was 26.75 in which didn’t sound too short so we believed her.
I need to point out that my mama editing skills are really rotten. I love almost every single picture and all of their different angles so I usually do not edit many pictures out. Then she was weighed. She weighed 17 lbs. 1oz. Practically perfect.
For comparison sake, Sophie was 12 lbs. 5oz. and 24.5 in. at six months. (Stupid reflux.) Maybe that’s why I felt she was little forever.
Sisters
Willing.
The first female special agent for Britain during WW II went by the code-name “Willing”. Emma is shaping up to be just as brilliant and tough. Sophia loves her so much it looks like it hurts, but Emma loves her right back. Because she is so tiny, she can’t grab onto Sophie or run and play…or protect herself or say no, but she is so willing to be part of all the action.
Emma’s doing pretty good right here…
Here she’s a bit non-plussed with the chin holding. I should also make note of the events that led to this moment. Emma was having some tummy time on the boppy…have you noticed that neck strength? That’s not from lying on her back! Sophie held her by her shoulders and hugged her and talked sweet to her and rubbed her face and hair against Emma’s face. Emma just pursed her lips and closed her eyes. Such patience and grace under pressure!
Don’t worry, Emma, your momma saved you soon after these were taken! Love you!
Mornings
Daddy time
These are really blurry, but I love them. Emma is so sweet and happy. (Anthony wanted me to crop him out because he thought he looked fat. I think he looks great. Editor’s choice.)
Please note her blue seahorse in her crib. Thank you, Aunt Libby. We have been sleep training so the seahorse softly lulls her into a deep sleep. It works for me and Anthony, too. No lie. (When I say sleep training, I mean turning the seahorse on so he glows and plays music, putting Emma’s paci in, and she falls asleep in approximately five minutes or less, though lately she has found her voice and talks a little longer. {I mentioned to mom that I am concerned Emma might be the talker in our family. Can you imagine if Sophie is our quiet one? Yikes!} Easy peasy. Any other child we have will be impossible compared to her. We won the lottery with these girls.)
